Uganda Highlands

From the Mountains of the Moon

Single-origin coffee, hand-harvested on the misty slopes of western Uganda and roasted with the same care our farmers give to growing it.

Born in the highlands of Uganda, Crested Creek Coffee brings together mountain air, rich soils, and generations of coffee-growing hands. We roast every bean with the same care our farmers put into growing it, so every cup carries a little piece of where we’re from to wherever you are.

From Cherry to Cup

Eight unhurried stages between the mountainside and your mug.

01
Coffee plants growing in Uganda highlands

Cultivation

Coffee plants thrive in the volcanic soil and cool mountain air of Uganda's highlands, nurtured by seasonal rainfall.

02
Coffee flowers blooming on branches

Flowering & Cherry Development

White flowers give way to green cherries that mature over 6–9 months, developing sweetness and complexity.

03

Selective Harvesting

Only ripe, red cherries are picked by hand, one plant at a time, often multiple passes per season for peak quality.

04
Hands sorting coffee cherries by quality

Sorting

Cherries are sorted by hand to remove underripe, overripe, or damaged fruit before processing begins.

05
Coffee cherries being processed

Processing

Cherries are processed using washed or natural methods to remove the fruit and prepare the beans for drying.

06
Whole coffee cherries drying on raised beds under mountain sun

Drying

Beans dry on raised beds for 3–4 weeks — the traditional DRUGAR method — turned by hand each day for even drying.

07

Roasting

Small batches roasted to bring out the unique character of each lot rather than mask it with darkness.

The Hands

Generations of Coffee-Growing Hands

Every lot we roast passes through the hands of a smallholder family before it reaches ours. Most farms across Uganda's highlands are modest — under two acres — tended by the same families for generations, passing down the timing, patience, and care that separates good coffee from remarkable coffee.

Ugandan highland farms are typically smallholder plots averaging less than two acres.

FAQ

Common Questions

Answers to questions coffee buyers often ask about our Uganda-grown coffee.

Where is your coffee grown?

Our coffee is grown across Uganda's highland coffee regions, including areas in the eastern, western, and southwestern parts of the country. These regions offer ideal altitude and climate conditions for specialty Arabica production.

What does "Natural / DRUGAR processed" mean?

DRUGAR (Dried Uganda Arabica) is a traditional natural processing method specific to Uganda. Whole coffee cherries are dried on raised beds for 3–4 weeks under the sun, turned by hand each day. This allows the fruit to ferment slightly around the bean, imparting distinctive winey and fruity notes.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes, we ship internationally. Shipping costs and delivery times vary by destination. For large wholesale orders outside Uganda, we work with freight forwarders to ensure your coffee arrives in optimal condition. Contact us for a quote specific to your location.

Is your coffee organic or fair trade certified?

We are currently in the process of obtaining organic and fair trade certifications. Our farming practices follow traditional organic methods, but we do not yet have formal certification documentation. We can provide details about our growing practices upon request.

How do I place an order?

For retail orders, use the contact form on this page or reach out via WhatsApp. For wholesale enquiries, use the wholesale enquiry button in the Wholesale section above, or email us directly. We'll respond with pricing, availability, and payment options.

What are your minimum order quantities?

For wholesale orders, minimum quantities depend on the lot and packaging format. We're flexible for first-time orders to help you test our coffee. Contact us with your requirements and we'll work with you to find a suitable arrangement.

Do you offer green beans or only roasted?

We offer both green beans and roasted coffee. Green beans are available for roasters who want to profile our lots themselves. Roasted coffee is available in various roast levels to suit your preference. Specify your preference when enquiring.

How should I store your coffee?

Store roasted coffee in an airtight container away from light, heat, and moisture. Use within 2–3 weeks of opening for optimal freshness. Green beans can be stored for up to a year in similar conditions if kept cool and dry.
